In a world where selfless dedication and heartfelt contributions to the community often go unnoticed, it is a privilege to shine a spotlight on individuals who are making a profound impact. Today, we celebrate the exceptional achievements of Cullen Holt, a senior at Lake Mary Preparatory School, was awarded the prestigious David R. Roberts Youth in Philanthropy Award for 2023. Cullen's story is an inspiring testament to the power of youth philanthropy and the positive change that one person can create.

The Lake Scary 5K: A Heartfelt Mission

Cullen's journey towards this well-deserved recognition is closely tied to his involvement in the Lake Scary 5K, an annual event that has touched the hearts of many. Since its inception in 2012, the Lake Scary 5K has aimed to raise both awareness and funds for children living with Cerebral Palsy. What makes this event truly remarkable is that it is almost entirely student-run, a testament to the dedication and compassion of Lake Mary Preparatory School students like Cullen.

Transforming Lives Through the Lake Scary 5K

Cullen's journey with the Lake Scary 5K began as a participant and volunteer. When the previous President graduated, Cullen took on the mantle of leadership. His dedication and innovative approach to the event were evident from the start, seeking guidance from the UCP team and continuously seeking advice throughout the planning process.

Under Cullen's inspiring guidance, the 2022 Lake Scary 5K achieved unprecedented success. Registration numbers reached an all-time high with 216 runners, double the size of the previous year. More than just financial success, the event's reach expanded, bringing UCP's message of inclusive learning for individuals with and without disabilities to a whole new audience.

A Global Reach and Impact

Cullen's philanthropic spirit knows no bounds, extending to global causes. He has spearheaded bake sales and dress-down events to support natural disaster victims and raise awareness of the challenges faced by young people in Ukraine. All of this, while maintaining a leadership role on LMP's Tennis team and excelling in multiple Honors and AP courses, demonstrating his remarkable ability to balance academic pursuits with a passion for philanthropy.
