Emotional health is key

UCP helps families navigate through the many questions and challenges that come with raising a child. Whether a family is processing a child’s disability diagnosis or learning to manage the pressure of being a mom at a young age, sometimes the uncertainty can be overwhelming. At UCP of Central Florida, we are able to calm their fears and provide answers to many of their questions.

Advocacy, Information and Referrals

UCP’s team members offer families support on advocacy for their children. Navigating the many paths on which to travel with a special needs child can be daunting and our team is dedicated to helping parents find their way.  At each of our campuses, we have a Family Services Case Manager who is available to help find resources and guide families through the process.

Individual, Couples and Family Counseling

Whether it’s talking with mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, or sister and brother, we offer families compassion and understanding. From individual sessions to group meetings for couples or families, our counselors talk with clients in various settings, helping them ease stress in a positive manner.

Counseling services are offered by appointment only and are free for eligible families (children with disabilities and their families) through a grant provided by Orange County Citizens’ Commission for Children.  Our Support Counseling Program focuses on the growth and well-being of everyone in the family. By educating everyone involved and equipping them with the proper tools, we are working to maximize each child’s level of success.

Family Support and Training Meetings

When it comes to raising a child, parents don’t always know what to do or how to do it effectively. Throughout the year, UCP offers free, educational support meetings and training sessions to eliminate some of these frustrations. Topics range from potty training to encouraging language and choosing age appropriate toys for your child. Please check with our campuses regarding upcoming events and training sessions.

BETA Teen Parent Group Counseling

Being a teenager is one of the most significant and emotional transition for many people. This stage could be especially overwhelming for teen mothers who are not only transitioning into young adulthood but also into motherhood. Our group counseling program gives UCP BETA students the opportunity to share their journey with each other and receive guidance and insight on how to best manage the many overwhelming transitions that come with being a teen mom. Our counselors also provide trauma counseling when it’s applicable.

Family Fun Nights and Events

Families often find there are a limited number of places where they have the opportunity to meet and interact with others whose experiences are similar to theirs. Several times throughout the year, our campuses host family fun nights and other events for students and families. These events are a great way to meet and mingle with other families at UCP and in our community. Family Fun Nights are open to everyone and often include light food, games and activities for the children. (i.e. shows, reading, music, etc.). Please check with your campus for upcoming family fun nights and festivals.
