Recreational Services

The purpose of the UCP of Central Florida Recreation Program is to increase the availability of recreation opportunities for children and adults with disabilities and build a more inclusive community. One of our core philosophies is to help create opportunities for all individuals to learn and play together. As part of our Recreation Program, people with disabilities are able to develop new interests and improve their social skills through participation in a variety of activities.

Ceramics

Need a new ceramic dish to put all those holiday leftovers in? This is the class for you! Get ready to get your hands messy with clay and have the time of your life as you learn the basics of ceramic making at the Loch Haven Park Neighborhood Center. From the simple pinch to advanced hand building, this class offers molding and decorative techniques for participants of any skill level.

Cooking Class

Emeril Lagasse will have nothing on you after completing this low-intensity, high-excitement cooking course. Participants will gain a firm knowledge of basic kitchen skills, menu planning, nutrition, as well as food safety and hygiene. Every skill level is welcome in this class of food and fun. So, if you’ve never touched a baking pan in your life or you think you’re America’s next top chef, come out on Thursday nights to better your culinary abilities.

Theatre

Do you ever find yourself the center of attention at parties? Have your crazy antics or wild sense of humor gotten you into some sticky situations? Don’t waste that charisma by just sitting around all day; join the theatre class and become part of something that will let you express all of your glorious energy where it’s meant to be expressed...on stage. This course includes a wide variety of performing arts fundamentals, including voice, body language, character development and confidence.

Art

Creativity and some one-on-one instruction will be your guides in this class. In this art class, you will learn the fundamentals of painting and drawing, including both still life and landscapes. So prepare to tap into your inner artist and discover some newfound creativity as you paint, sketch and draw your way to some impressive showpieces. All skills levels are welcome.

Wonders of Watercolor

Get ready to explore the possibilities of the most fluid of painting mediums. This eight week workshop will teach you, first-hand, the techniques and skills needed to create a watercolor masterpiece. So come join in the fun as a professional instructor guides you in the areas of traditional and non-traditional watercolor methods, as well as in-studio and plein-air (outdoor) painting.
COST: $10 (per session)

Neon Club Dances

The Neon Dance Club is offered the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month from 6:30pm-9:00pm at the Loch Haven Neighborhood Center (610 N. Lake Formosa Drive, Orlando). Admission is just $1.00! The Neon Dance Club offers a DJ and also refreshments (for an additional charge). Throughout the year, there will be special Dinner Dances which will cost $5.00.

 

Bingo

Bingo is offered on the 4th Friday of each month at the Loch Haven Neighborhood Center (610 N. Lake Formosa Drive, Orlando). Bingo is open to all adults over the age of 18. Bingo cards are available for sale and cash prizes are awarded to the winners. Refreshments are available for additional charge.

 

After School Care Program (Ages 8 – 21)

The UCP Loch Haven After School Program is offered after school and on school vacation days for children and young adults with developmental disabilities. To be eligible for this program, children must have the ability to toilet and feed themselves, be able to participate in a group setting and be non-aggressive. Activities include games and sports, arts and crafts, homework help, and cooking. Physical, speech and occupational therapy is provided on site (Medicaid, Commercial insurance and Private pay are available for funding). Busing is available from select schools.
