Alec Hyre
Start a conversation with this little slugger and you are sure to discover there is more to his life than baseball. There is hard work, courage, and commitment to perseverance.
Alec Hyre is the second basemen for the Yankees in the Central Florida Miracle League Baseball program. He also has cerebral palsy.
Alec's parents were referred to UCP by a neurologist who diagnosed the disability. For over seven years, Alec has undergone major operations and weekly sessions of physical and occupational therapy that sometimes surpass 10 hours per week.
But instead of complaints or discouragement, all you hear out of Alec is his commitment to his ultimate goal of walking unassisted. This is the current focus of his therapy at UCP of Central Florida and walking is slowly becoming less of an obstacle.
Just a few years ago, this courageous boy stood and addressed a crowd as the guest speaker of UCP of Central Florida’s Faces Behind the Miracles Fundraising Breakfast. He proudly informed the audience that he plans to score a home run in his goal to walk. Since then, he has continued to progress wonderfully.
