UCP Gala Honors Local Fortune 500 Company while Raising More than $300,000 for Children with Special Needs
3/12/2008
Orlando, Fla. – UCP of Central Florida raised more than $300,000 at its annual gala, An Evening at the Palace. Hosted by Emmy-nominated actress Cheryl Hines, UCP and 700 of its friends spent the evening at the Buena Vista Palace celebrating the accomplishments of children with disabilities while recognizing Darden Restaurants with the presentation of the Jack Holloway Star of Gratitude Award for their years of dedicated service to the organization and our community.
Throughout the years, Darden has helped UCP increase the number of children served through grants, special events, matching employee contributions and volunteer service. Contributions have helped UCP fund two centers, establish and maintain quality early intervention educational services for children with special needs, and staff its six centers.
“Currently, our community is in need of specialized education and therapy programs for children with all types of special needs,” said Ilene Wilkins, president & CEO of UCP of Central Florida. “Without the support from partners like Darden Restaurants, we would not be able to keep up with this demand.”
Dollars raised at the Gala will help UCP fund therapy scholarships for financially challenged families; staff its six centers, and purchase supplies and equipment for its classrooms and therapy gyms.
Founded in 1955, UCP of Central Florida provides support, education and therapy services for people with all types of special needs. Last year more than 2,300 children and their families received services provided by UCP. For more information, visit www.ucpcfl.org.
