Teacher Assistant

Position Summary:
The Teacher Assistant helps the education staff in a number of ways. Duties assigned to the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform lead teacher assistant duties in absence of the lead teacher assistant, including, but not limited to following lesson plans, and leading other staff in the classroom.
  • Implementing lesson plans pursuant to teacher/LTA directions.
  • Implementing individual goals and objectives pursuant to teacher/LTA directions.
  • Set up camp and extended day classroom consistent with developmentally appropriate practices for specific age levels.
  • Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques.
  • Assist in implementing individual behavior plans as needed.
  • Assist in planning and developing instructional materials and equipment, including enrichment materials for each unit, so that maximum use may be made of resources.
  • Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning children’s hands, faces, etc.
  • Ensure and carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores for the classrooms, including, but not limited to sweeping floors after meals and activities, wiping tables and counters, cleaning changing tables,  placing trash in appropriate containers, and washing, sterilizing and putting away equipment (toys, laundry and dishes).
  • Assist in the communication with therapists and other special service agencies, and incorporate therapy and other special requirements into class activities.
  • Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
  • Ensure Teacher and/or LTA are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
  • Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Teacher and/or LTA.
  • Participate in required number of meetings with classroom team, including therapists, lead  teacher assistants and teacher.
  • Assist with tracking student progress of individual goals.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPPA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.

Qualifications: G.E.D. or High School Diploma and one year or more childcare provider experience working with infants/toddlers, preferably in a pediatric, developmentally disabled population in a multi-disciplinary setting.
